Export / Import Preference Settings

Export / Import Preference Settings

Has anyone figured out a way to export / import preference settings for Windchill 9.X?  We need to be able to control these settings and have a way to move them between environments.  It is very manual to update in each environment manually and there is too much risk of error.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

This would be very useful. Please let us know if you find a way.
What is also essential is to have a spreadsheet or other method for recording all your decisions on how to set the preferences - no easy way to get all from the system into the spreadsheet that we could find.

Export / Import Preference Settings

Here is a report to extract preferences.. import this QML file make the
necessary changes to add the attributes you would like to view.

One thing to note:

INSTANCE TYPE (SITE) = 200

INSTANCE TYPE (ORG) = 300

INSTANCE TYPE (CONTAINER) = 400

INSTANCE TYPE (USER) = 900

You can also sort by Client Type Windchill, PROE, etc.

You can develop you own methodology using this export and the loader based
import to propagate preference settings from one environment to the other.

Hope this helps.

Could you elaborate how to use this QML file? I am afraid I understand how to import and use it.

Thanks,

Peter

Kim,

Use Report Manager. Export the results into a CSV file.

Open with Excel, Apply Filter on entire sheet.

Filter the Client column by Windchill / Pro/E

Filter user column by "Administrator" & SPACE (" ") - This will give you the
preferences owned by the system and the administrator (mostly all of the
defaults).
